The story follows Dia (played by the magnificent Madhuri Dixit), a divorced mother and successful choreographer living in New York. Her world is shaken by news that her beloved dance guru, Makarand, is on his deathbed in her hometown of Shamli, India. She rushes back, but arrives just too late. However, her guru's final wish is preserved in a video message: Dia must save the dilapidated Ajanta Theatre, the place where she first learned to dance, from being demolished to make way for a shopping mall.
