The story begins several years after the events of the first film. Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) is caught by the police after a brief chase on his dirt bike, which ended when he drove into a swimming pool while trying to break into a satellite research center. His stepfather, Hank Parsons (Dwayne Johnson), arrives to take him home and tries to bond with him.
